Xirena

zah-ree-nah

Xirena is our Kangal livestock guardian. She is charged with protecting the goat herd from all threats be they human or animal. She is still just a puppy but already shows how fierce she can be. Right now she's more concerned by the deer and the fox but over time she will learn that they aren't as much of a threat as some other things.
Since moving to Altoona in September 2021, Xirena has begun to take her guarding duties very seriously. She has very quickly learned what is and isn't normal for the neighborhood and developed a "get away" bark and a "I need backup" bark. The change in her has been tremendous and truly incredible to witness! We couldn't be more proud of her!

The property is posted appropriately for a working LGD on the premises. Trespass at your own risk. (As in: Don't.)

Sharp Cat is a beautiful Thoroughbred mare who used to race. She decided that she didn't much like being in the starting gate and was retired from racing. She is a very sensitive mare and everything MUST be her idea. She is such fun to work with and learn to unlock. Cat is boarded nearby where there is access to trails, arenas, cross country courses and more grass than she could possibly dream about eating.

Nancy

While the dairy herd has moved to Pennsylvania in September 2021, Nancy has stayed in New Hampshire. The area in PA is just a bit more heavily trafficked and Nancy doesn't really enjoy travelling. We thought it best to let her stay where she is familiar and obviously quite happy. The property in NH is still in the family so Nancy has a forever home.

A more superior barn cat you will never find! Nancy is something like 12 years old at this point and gracefully patrols the farm looking for mice, squirrels, chipmunks, HUGE rats and anything else she can get her paws on. She is a very proficient hunter and proud of it! If her meows sound muffled it's because she's in the window with her latest prize to show off. She demands accolades and praise as her only payment for her dedicated service. When she isn't hunting, Nancy can be found lazing about on the front porch or curled up around her favorite tennis ball!

Thank you, Sam, for such a perfect barn cat!
